Today my group went Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art. It rained a lot, so I was like a drowned mouse when I arrived. Anyway, I really enjoyed the exhibition. I had a digital guide on my hand, so I could understand easily about artists and their works. Leeum has two major exhibition: Museum 1 for Korean traditional art and Museum 2 for Contemporary art. Museum 1 includes Goryeo Dynasty Celadon, Joseon Dynasty Buncheong Ware and Porcelain, metal works, paintings and calligraphy. To me, Goryeo dynasty celadons were unbelievably beautiful for their details and gloss. I couldn't believe they were made 900 years ago. In Museum 2, I really enjoyed seeing abstract and modernized works. It was hard to understand the artists' intentions of some works, but as my digital guide explained, I solved them. To me, the most interesting work was Nam Jun Paik's My Faust Autobiography(1989-1991). I'm personally interested in his works as I heard a lot of him from my grandfather, a friend of him. The most interesting about this work was that I could see his private life. In this work, His jacket was on the left, his muffler was on the right, and his palette was on the bottom. Video monitors were on the middle with three different absorbing videos, and I could feel how his life was. I love the art works when they have privately important meanings to artists and move people like me. Leeum was a wonderful place, if you have time you should check. It also has interesting spider sculptures outside.
