As water flows in an underground drain, symbolising the flow of time, the architecture opens up, rising and spreading, like hope, that war will never take place again. Gentle lotuses blossom in the vicinity of tanks and bombers, mocking at the greyness of these man-made objects collecting dust, hopefully never to be used again. But those lotuses will flower again and again, each time presenting their perfect beauty. The pain, agony, fear, but also courage and strength embodied in the sculptures (see the pics posted below) are silent yet powerful reminders of the many faces of war. Yet will mankind ever learn? As we travel in real time up and down the lift of Gonzaga Hall, similar images are projected from different parts of the world - in real time. But no, we do not look at them in the same way as we look at the reminders at the War Memorial. We are on our way to the comfort of our rooms or for breakfast in the cafeteria. Tomorrow I will show you the lotuses. Today you dream about them, embody them like in the gesture here.
