We went to the museum of contemporary art today and I took some sneaky ninja pictures since I technically wasn't allowed to take photos. From the top the five works that stuck out to me are Winged Being by Jean Arp, an Untitled work by Choi Wook Kyung, The Big Battle by Yves Klein, Dance of Death by Damien Hirst, and Black Adder by Frank Stella. All of these works, with the exception of Dance of Death, do not have an obvious meaning or purpose. Dance of Death is an obvious commentary on our Rx world and is really grabbing when one first sees it because of its vast size and the amazing diversity of pills in the cabinat. Yet the other four are not obvious in their meaning nor do they nessacarly have any meaning at all. To really appreciate these works a person needs to be in calming and peacful gallery space and just see how the works strike them. I feel that the two most important things when looking at abstracted art is to be sure to stand in front of, and consider, each work as well as remember there does not have to be a meaning for each peice some, especially the untitled work, are more about expression and feeling that deep meaning.
